EMDR is a technique that helps people heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. EMDR therapy not only shows that the mind can heal from psychological trauma, but can heal faster than typical talk therapy. When we go through traumatic events, we often associate that event with negative beliefs (e.g. "I'm not good enough," "I'm permanently damaged," etc.) and negative emotions (e.g. shame, anger, sadness, etc.) EMDR helps the mind reprocess the event which helps the client heal. My clients often exhibit not only an emotional healing, but a transformation and liberation from what once kept them stuck (e.g. moving from self-disgust to feeling empowered.)
